Kordofani Rewinds to 90s-2000s Pop on New Single ‘Ellela’

Fresh off his baile funk-leaning debut ‘JUDO’ with Cairo-based RAAD Records, Sudanese rapper and singer Kordofani returns with ‘Ellela’, a clear pivot toward a more accessible sound.

Produced by Hany Waleed, the track fuses nostalgic Sudanese pop with an old-school hip-hop backbone. Kordofani glides through reflections on love and devotion with an easy, buoyant delivery, riding warm, groove-led instrumentals laced with subtle jazz inflections. Sudanese vocalist Monzer Ramadan anchors the chorus with crisp, infectious hooks, adding a bright, feel-good lift to the track’s overall palette.

If this new release is any indication, it seems that Kordofani is deliberately expanding his sonic universe beyond the rigid territories of rap, testing how far he can stretch it without losing its core identity.
