Zayed Sustainability Prize Names 2027 Finalists
A record 10,233 entries from 177 countries produced finalists across health, food, energy, water, climate action and schools.
The Zayed Sustainability Prize has named its 2027 finalists after receiving a record 10,233 submissions from 177 countries, up 32% from last year. Finalists span Health, Food, Energy, Water, Climate Action and Global High Schools, with winners to be announced on January 12th during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
For the first time, every finalist is guaranteed funding. Organisational finalists will receive USD 100,000 each, while Global High Schools finalists will receive USD 25,000. Category winners will receive USD 1 million in the organisational categories and USD 150,000 for schools.
Shortlisted projects range from AI systems that predict pregnancy complications months in advance and paediatric exoskeletons that help children walk, to lithium-free rechargeable batteries, AI robots that detect water leaks, drought-resistant crop technologies, wastewater reuse systems and microbial treatments designed to reduce methane emissions from rice farming.
Applied Technology Schools in Ajman is representing the UAE in the Middle East and North Africa schools category alongside finalists from Syria and Lebanon. The prize says its previous winners and finalists have collectively reached more than 411 million people through projects spanning healthcare, food security, energy and water access.
