Underground Smart Waste Bins Introduced in Dokki

Giza Governorate is installing underground smart waste bins in the Dokki district as part of a new waste management project aimed at reducing street-level rubbish accumulation.

The system places waste containers below ground, with each station divided into separate compartments for plastic, glass, and paper to support sorting at the point of disposal.

Officials said Dokki was selected as the first district for implementation, with plans to evaluate the project before expanding it to other neighbourhoods across the governorate.

According to the governorate, the underground design is intended to improve the visual appearance of streets while addressing issues linked to waste scavenging and stray animals by keeping rubbish contained beneath street level.

The project also aims to encourage basic waste separation through dedicated recycling categories integrated into each collection point.
