UAE to Host its First International Professional Sumo Competition
The wrestlers are set to light up Abu Dhabi at the Space42 Arena on September 26th.
The All-Star Sumo Competition is bringing nine elite wrestlers from Japan, Mongolia and Egypt to Space42 Arena on September 26th for the UAE’s first international professional sumo competition.
Across 36 rapid-fire bouts, the wrestlers will battle through a round-robin format, with the competitor holding the best record at the end of the night crowned the inaugural All-Star Sumo Champion in Abu Dhabi.
The line-up includes Emperor’s Cup winner Ichi, 250kg Japanese powerhouse Hiroki, Mongolia’s Mendee and Egypt’s 10-time national champion Ramy El-Gazar. Together, the Japanese competitors bring decades of experience from the highest levels of professional sumo.
And the night goes beyond the dohyo, with traditional ring-entering ceremonies, pre-bout rituals and taiko drumming bringing the culture of sumo to Abu Dhabi.
