Riyadh Got 900 Km of New Roads in 2026
The General Authority for Roads also reported 3.7 million truck journeys and launched new AI-powered road monitoring centres.
More than 900 km of new roads were opened across Saudi Arabia during the first half of 2026 through 40 infrastructure projects led by the General Authority for Roads.
The projects span Makkah, Madinah, Asir, the Eastern Province and Qassim, and are intended to strengthen connections between cities and regions, reduce travel times, and support tourism, logistics and commercial activity as part of Vision 2030.
According to the authority, the national road network also handled more than 3.7 million truck journeys along logistics corridors during the first six months of the year, highlighting its role in linking ports, border crossings and economic centres. More than 32,000 permits were also issued for services across the road network.
During the same period, the authority launched a Control and Rapid Response Centre and a Smart Control Centre to monitor road operations and maintenance using advanced technologies and artificial intelligence. It also expanded compliance monitoring of the Saudi Roads Code in the Makkah and Madinah regions and signed five memorandums of understanding to support cooperation and innovation in the sector.
The authority also introduced a number of initiatives during the Hajj season, including the Darbak Noor initiative, mobile service stations and a specialised Hajj road guide for pilgrims travelling to the holy sites.
