President El-Sisi Restricts Construction Along Egypt's Coasts

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has directed that no facilities or construction works be established within 200 metres of Egypt's shoreline without prior approval from the relevant state authorities, as part of new measures governing coastal development.

The directives were issued during a meeting in New Alamein City with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk on August 10th. According to presidential spokesperson Mohamed El Shennawy, President El-Sisi also ordered the immediate formation of a committee to conduct on-site inspections and ensure citizens continue to enjoy free access to public beaches in accordance with existing regulations.

The committee will verify compliance with the 200-metre restriction and review whether any projects or works within the protected zone have obtained the necessary approvals from the competent state bodies. President El-Sisi also stressed the strict enforcement of existing laws, regulations and republican decrees governing land allocated for tourism activities along Egypt's coasts.

Separately, President El-Sisi instructed the formation of another committee to review ongoing real estate projects across all governorates. The committee will monitor whether developers are delivering units according to contractual deadlines, completing the required infrastructure and fulfilling their obligations to buyers. It has also been tasked with holding violators accountable and providing the President with regular updates on its findings.
