Governor of Ismailia Orders Road Safety Measures After Fatal Crash

Ismailia Governor Major General Nabil El Sayed Hasaballah has ordered a package of road safety measures following an accident in Al Qassasin, including a technical review of Wadi Al Malak road and tighter controls on traffic and farm access points.

A technical committee has been formed with representatives from the Traffic Department, Al Qassasin Centre and City, the General Authority for Roads and Bridges, and the Directorate of Roads and Transport. The committee will inspect the road, determine the technical causes of the accident and issue engineering recommendations aimed at improving safety standards.

The governor also directed officials to conduct a full survey of farms located along Wadi Al Malak road. Farm operators will be prohibited from employing workers below the legal age, with violations to be referred to the Public Prosecution.

Farm owners with properties fronting the road will also be required to implement standardised entrances and exits at their own expense, under the supervision of the General Authority for Roads and Bridges. The measure is intended to regulate access points and reduce unsafe interaction between private farm traffic and vehicles travelling along the road.

The General Authority for Roads and Bridges was instructed to increase warning and guidance signage and study the installation of rumble strips at five-kilometre intervals to reduce vehicle speeds. It will also prepare a traffic study and vehicle count to assess the feasibility of fully dualising the road.

The Traffic Department was additionally directed to intensify enforcement campaigns, particularly during peak periods for labour transport, with a focus on preventing unsafe passenger carriage in quarter-ton and half-ton pickup trucks and applying penalties against violators.
