Free Hafilat Cards Offered to Abu Dhabi’s Top Public School Graduates

High-achieving public school graduates in Abu Dhabi will receive a Hafilat card — the contactless payment card used across the emirate’s public bus network — free of charge for one year.

The offer applies to students who graduated from government schools in the emirate during the 2025–2026 academic year with an average of 95% or above. Eligible students will also be able to use a dedicated counter for faster service.

Hafilat cards can be used on local bus routes across Abu Dhabi as well as intercity services connecting different regions, allowing passengers to pay fares without purchasing separate tickets for each journey.

The system includes several card options, including anonymous and personalised cards priced at AED 10, student cards at AED 5, and free senior citizen cards for eligible UAE nationals.

Personalised and senior citizen cards require registration using an Emirates ID, while student cards require a valid student ID along with any other documents requested by the transport authority.

A minimum initial top-up is generally required before a Hafilat card can be used. Stored balances can then be used to pay individual fares or purchase weekly, monthly and annual passes.

The free-year initiative is limited to eligible 2025–2026 government school graduates who meet the 95% threshold.
