Egypt Records Highest Crude Oil Output in Nearly Two Years

Egypt has recorded its highest crude oil production in nearly two years, with refinery utilisation rising to around 80% in 2026 as the country expands domestic refining and petroleum product exports.

The figures were announced by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi during a visit to the Alexandria Petroleum Company refinery. According to the ministry, increased production of crude oil and condensates, combined with directing greater volumes of local and imported crude to Egyptian refineries, has strengthened refining activity and increased the production of higher-value petroleum products.

Between January and June 2026, Egypt exported 2.3 million tonnes of petroleum products worth USD 2.3 billion. The ministry said the total matches the country's petroleum product exports for the whole of 2025. Exported products included jet fuel, naphtha, waxes and vacuum distillate.

The ministry added that higher refinery utilisation has helped strengthen domestic fuel supplies, reduce reliance on imports and create export surpluses where available.

Efficiency programmes overseen by the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation have also increased production across several refineries. At the Cairo Oil Refining Company in Mostorod, the gasoline complex increased monthly output by around 45,000 tonnes of gasoline and 40,000 tonnes of jet fuel. One refinery in Alexandria is now operating at more than 110% of its design capacity, while the Al Ameriya Petroleum Refining Company has raised monthly production of 92-octane gasoline by between 10,000 and 15,000 tonnes. Production has also increased at the MIDOR refinery, alongside upgrades to the Alexandria Petroleum Company's lubricants complex.

The ministry said it is also moving forward with a new package of refinery development projects worth around USD 4.5 billion.
