Dubai & Abu Dhabi Airports Welcome Residents Home for New School Year

Summer's winding down and the UAE's airports have clearly decided that a passport stamp shouldn't be the only thing greeting you home. As families pour back in ahead of Monday's school bell, Dubai and Abu Dhabi have turned their arrivals halls into a homecoming party.

Over at DXB's Terminal 3, the little ones are welcomed by mascots from Dubai Police and GDRFA on hand for high fives, a local musician setting the mood in the arrivals area, and a craft corner where families can put together their own personalised welcome-home signs.

Taxi passengers headed home are handed cold towels and refreshments, a small mercy after a long-haul flight. Even transit passengers get in on it, catching live regional performances and grabbing treats at the transfer desks between connections.

At Gate B28 and you'll find the "I Heart DXB" installation, where a quick selfie becomes part of a flag-coloured group portrait and a nearby wall fills up with handwritten notes of love for the city. Stickers and pins included, because no welcome is complete without a little swag.

At Zayed International, families are handed “cultural boarding passes” pointing them towards museums, heritage sites and other places to explore across Abu Dhabi. Children and senior citizens can also access selected Saadiyat Cultural District venues for free, while a QR code opens up suggested itineraries and event highlights across the emirate.

Both efforts run through the back-to-school rush, timed for the return of more than 1.27 million pupils to over 1,180 schools nationwide. Airports aside, authorities are bracing for the traffic surge with extra patrols, drone coverage near schools and flexible drop-off hours for federal employees.
