Incoming charter flights to Alamein International Airport rose 50% in summer 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.
Incoming charter flights to Alamein International Airport rose 50% in summer 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, according to Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy. He noted that charter traffic had risen 540% in summer 2025 compared with 2024, while overall flight numbers at the airport also include services outside the charter segment.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation is expanding Alamein International Airport to accommodate higher traffic, while tourism authorities are promoting Marsa Matrouh alongside Siwa and Bedouin cultural experiences. Officials have also discussed new air links to Matrouh and ways to connect destinations across the governorate with Siwa.
Civil Aviation Minister Sameh Elhefny said the tourism and aviation ministries are coordinating promotion with both scheduled and charter services, while working to strengthen national airlines, expand international connections, increase airport capacity and encourage more private-sector participation in aviation.
The ministry is also expanding digital airport services, including electronic gates, and has been involved in the rollout of Egypt’s digital visa-on-arrival system, whose first phase began at Cairo International Airport in early August 2026. Fathy added that every one million tourists support around 220,000 direct and indirect jobs.
