79% of Saudi Employers Prefer Verified Generative AI Skills
A Coursera report found growing demand for verified generative AI credentials.
Nearly four in five employers in Saudi Arabia would hire a candidate with verified generative artificial intelligence skills over a more experienced applicant without those credentials, according to Coursera's Micro-Credentials Impact Report 2026.
The report found that 79% of employers in the Kingdom would prioritise candidates with certified generative AI skills, while 99% said they use skills-based hiring in some form for entry-level positions. Among them, 86% reported using the approach extensively. Student demand for verified training was also found to be high.
According to the report, 82% of Saudi students are more likely to enrol in programmes offering generative AI micro-credentials, compared with a global average of 62%.
Employers reported strong outcomes from such qualifications. Around 92% said entry-level hires with micro-credentials perform better during their first year, compared with 63% globally. Meanwhile, 72% expect training cost savings of more than 20% for these employees, and 98% said they would offer higher starting salaries to graduates holding the credentials.
The report also found that Saudi students are 5.3 times more likely to pursue micro-credentials when they are formally accredited. Participation reached 80% for accredited programmes, compared with 15% for non-accredited alternatives.
Among graduates with micro-credentials, 85% secured employment related to their field of study within a year of graduation.
At the institutional level, 48% of higher education leaders said universities that fail to integrate micro-credentials face moderate to significant strategic risks.
