42 Tonnes of Custard Apples Produced Annually in Jazan
More than 4,200 trees owned by about 110 farmers drive the crop across Jazan’s mountainous governorates.
More than 42 tonnes of custard apples are produced annually in Jazan, according to the Ministry of Environment Water and Agriculture.
The crop is grown across more than 4,200 trees owned by around 110 farmers, with cultivation concentrated in the region’s mountainous governorates where climate and soil conditions support its growth.
The fruit, known locally as “safarjal,” is characterised by a sweet taste and creamy texture, with officials noting increasing demand in local markets and gradual expansion of cultivation.
Support for the sector is being led by the National Research and Development Center for Sustainable Agriculture, which is working to improve crop varieties, increase productivity, and introduce modern agricultural technologies.
