WHO Approves Palestinian Flag to Be Raised at Geneva HQ for First Time
With 95 votes in favour and four against, the World Health Organization’s annual assembly has approved a resolution to raise the Palestinian flag at its Geneva headquarters.

The World Health Organization (WHO)’s annual assembly in Geneva has approved a resolution that will allow the Palestinian flag to be raised at its headquarters for the first time in history—a largely symbolic gesture seen as a step toward broader international recognition.
The vote, held on May 27th, saw 95 member states vote in favour of the motion, which was co-sponsored by China, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and others. Four countries voted against—Israel, Germany, Hungary, and the Czech Republic—while 27 abstained. The United States did not participate in the vote, citing its decision to withdraw from the WHO.
The resolution echoes similar moves in the UN General Assembly, where Palestine has secured enhanced status in recent years. The decision to raise the flag does not confer Palestine with full WHO membership.
