US Embassy in Cairo Releases 'Guidance for Americans in Egypt'

The U.S. Embassy in Egypt has updated its travel guidance for American citizens, advising them to “exercise increased caution” while in the country. The advisory, posted on the Embassy’s official Facebook page on March 4th, 2026, cites "terrorism, crime, and health" as key concerns.

The post specifically states: “Do not travel to the Northern and Middle Sinai Peninsula, the Western Desert, and Egyptian border areas.” It also notes that Americans seeking to depart the Middle East through Egypt can do so via commercial flights out of Cairo.

The update comes amid escalating tensions across the region, where several neighboring countries—including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain—have been raised to Level 3 (“Reconsider Travel”) or higher. Egypt remains at Level 2 (“Exercise Increased Caution”), which—according to the U.S. Embassy Cairo—reflects that their "overall assessment of the security situation there has not changed at this time."
