UAE’s 6G THz Pilot Sets Middle East Record with 145 Gbps Data Speed

The UAE has completed the Middle East’s first 6G Terahertz (THz) pilot, reaching data speeds of 145 Gbps in a trial conducted by e& UAE in collaboration with NYU Abu Dhabi. The test marks a major step toward developing the infrastructure needed for sixth-generation telecommunications.

The pilot demonstrated the capacity of THz frequencies to support high-bandwidth, low-latency applications, including holographic telepresence, extended reality (XR), terabit-class backhaul, and digital twin technologies.

According to e& UAE, the project aims to contribute to global 6G research and standardisation, positioning the UAE as an early adopter of next-generation communications. NYU Abu Dhabi researchers emphasised that the collaboration highlights the role of academic–industry partnerships in advancing telecommunications innovation.

The initiative was accompanied by the release of a joint white paper titled ‘Building the Fabric of 6G: Spectrum Frontiers and Enabling Technologies’, outlining the transition from sub-7GHz bands to the Terahertz spectrum and exploring enabling tools such as AI-native networks, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), and integrated sensing and communication (ISAC).
