Tax Authority Launches Consultation Platform for Businesses
The Egyptian Tax Authority has introduced a consultation platform to involve the business community in tax policymaking as part of wider efforts to modernise the tax system.
The Egyptian Tax Authority has launched a new consultation platform aimed at involving the business community directly in tax policymaking, allowing companies and sector representatives to submit views and proposals before tax decisions that affect their activities are issued.
The platform was outlined during a conference organised by the American Chamber of Commerce as part of the ongoing dialogue on a second package of tax facilities. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to expand institutional dialogue, strengthen transparency, and create a more predictable and investment-friendly tax environment.
According to the authority, the platform builds on the first package of tax facilities introduced under the slogan “A Full Stop and a New Line,” which focused on simplifying procedures, easing compliance, and resetting the relationship between taxpayers and the tax administration.
The second package aims to institutionalise partnership with the business community, encourage voluntary compliance, and support the integration of informal economic activity into the formal system.
Measures included in the second package feature the introduction of a Tax Excellence Card, granting compliant taxpayers access to fast-track services such as priority support units, advance tax rulings, and accelerated value-added tax refunds.
The authority is also developing its central clearing system to allow electronic offsetting between credit and debit balances, reducing settlement times.
Additional steps include issuing a comprehensive guidance manual for export-related tax services, launching a dedicated mobile application for real estate disposal tax calculations and payments, and establishing specialised tax centres in New Cairo, New Alamein, and Sheikh Zayed to provide integrated, fast-track services for different taxpayer categories.
