Saudi Artist Mohammad Alfaraj Receives Art Basel Gold Award
The prestigious award follows his Emerging Artist Award last May, given to artists shaping the future of contemporary art.
Following his Emerging Artist Award this past May, Saudi multidisciplinary artist Mohammad AlFaraj has now claimed the prestigious Art Basel Gold Award at Art Basel Miami Beach, celebrating artists shaping the future of contemporary art.
Raised in Al Asa and trained as an engineer, AlFaraj’s early love for the camera blossomed into a practice that blends film, photography, sculpture, and poetry, cinematic collages charged with collective memory and a quest for truth.
He is currently showing his first institutional solo exhibition, Seas Are Sweet, Fish Tears Are Salty, at Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai, curated by Rotana Shaker. The show, featuring installations, photography, video, and site-specific commissions, highlights the poetic force and evolving scope of his work. On view until January 4th, 2026.
