Saudi Aramco Introduces 98-Octane Petrol At SAR 2.88 Per Litre

Saudi energy company Saudi Aramco has introduced 98-octane petrol to its retail fuel portfolio, pricing the new grade at SAR 2.88 per litre. The rollout begins in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Dammam metropolitan area, as well as along the main highways connecting these cities.

The company said the introduction adds a new fuel option without affecting the availability of existing 91-octane and 95-octane petrol, which will continue to be supplied as usual. Any future expansion of 98-octane availability to other areas will be assessed based on demand and consumption patterns.

According to Aramco, the use of 98-octane petrol is limited to high-performance vehicles and sports cars that require higher octane ratings for efficient operation. These vehicles account for no more than 0.5% of the total vehicle fleet in the Kingdom. The company added that there is no technical or performance benefit from using 98-octane petrol in vehicles with standard or medium-compression engines.

Launch locations were selected based on the concentration of vehicles designed to operate on higher-octane fuel. Aramco also confirmed that all petrol grades offered at its stations meet the same quality and specification standards.
