Old Rent Tenants Can Register for Alternative Housing Through Egypt

Egypt Post has opened electronic registration for tenants seeking alternative housing under old rent arrangements, with service available through 500 post offices nationwide starting January 18th, 2026. The first phase is limited to applicants who already have an activated account on the Digital Egypt platform, where applicant data will be verified electronically. Egypt Post stated that the process is designed to organise applications and deliver a secure government service channel.

In a later phase, participating post offices will support citizens in creating and activating new Digital Egypt accounts at the counter. To register, applicants visit the nearest participating post office to their residence, present a valid national ID and the lease contract or proof of the tenancy, and complete a data form covering the unit, tenant and rent value. Staff then enter the information into the system, and the applicant receives a request number for follow-up via the digital platform. Submitting an application does not equate to final approval; requests will be examined to confirm eligibility and prioritised according to approved social and economic criteria.

Registration is open to tenants of residential and non-residential units, covering both old and new rent frameworks. The measure is described as organisational and statistical, with no new financial burdens imposed on tenants. The initiative aligns with the unified electronic application channel launched in October 2025 to facilitate access to alternative housing options through social and middle-income housing projects under rent or ownership schemes.
