Luxor to See Longest Solar Eclipse of the 21st Century in 2027

Luxor will witness the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century on August 2nd, 2027, with totality lasting six minutes and twenty-three seconds, according to NASA. The phenomenon is expected to draw thousands of visitors, scientists, and photographers to Egypt to observe what has been described as “a night in broad daylight,” when stars become visible during the day and temperatures drop by ten degrees. Egypt, and Luxor in particular, is cited as an ideal location to observe the eclipse, making it a focal point for international travel and tourism agencies that have begun promoting eclipse tourism trips to Egypt. Tourism experts stated that this event will serve as a golden opportunity to revitalise astronomical tourism and position Egypt as a leading scientific and tourist destination for 2027. Comparative visibility at peak coverage across selected Mediterranean locations places Luxor at 100% totality, with Lampedusa in Italy at 99.8%, Malaga in Spain at 96%, Syracuse in Italy at 92%, and Naples at 85%.
