UAE swimmer Hussain Shawky claimed the gold medal in the 50m butterfly at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, setting a new Games record with a time of 24.73 seconds. He finished 0.24 seconds ahead of Hong Kong’s Lau Kin James, who took silver with 24.97 seconds, and 0.32 seconds ahead of Wu Chao-Si of Chinese Taipei, who earned bronze at 25.05 seconds.

Shawky's victory added to a strong showing for the UAE contingent at the Games, bringing the nation’s total medal count to 19, including eight gold, six silver, and five bronze. The result placed the UAE sixth overall in the standings and first among Arab nations. China led with 98 medals, followed by Uzbekistan with 40 and Thailand with 33.

The Emirati swimmer had qualified for the 50m butterfly final with a time of 25.16 seconds, finishing 0.42 seconds ahead of his nearest rival. His gold came after winning bronze in the 50m freestyle earlier in the week, marking his third final in just 24 hours and reinforcing his consistency across multiple events.
