First UAE Edition of She Leads Hosted by Liwa University
The SHE LEADS leadership programme made its UAE debut at Liwa University, focusing on women in higher education roles.
Liwa University hosted the SHE LEADS programme at its Abu Dhabi campus from January 20th to 22nd, 2026, marking the first implementation of the initiative in the United Arab Emirates. Delivered in partnership with Advance HE, the programme aligns with UAE Vision 2071 and the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Women. The programme provided leadership development using Advance HE frameworks adapted to the cultural and professional context of the United Arab Emirates and the wider Middle East and North Africa region. The curriculum comprised four interactive workshops focused on strengthening leadership capabilities, promoting diversity and inclusion, and equipping participants with practical strategies to support institutional change. Sessions included contributions from 18 speakers who shared perspectives and expertise in higher education leadership. Forty five women from universities across the country took part. Participating institutions included Liwa University, Abu Dhabi University, United Arab Emirates University, Khalifa University, New York University Abu Dhabi, University of Sharjah, Ajman University, Al Ain University and Fujairah University. SHE LEADS is designed for women in higher education across academic and administrative roles, as well as aspiring leaders among employees and students. Sessions featured reflective discussions and practical tools to enhance personal leadership effectiveness, build mentoring and coaching networks, and foster inclusive academic environments.
