Final Touches on Grand Egyptian Museum Due by End of February
The biggest museum dedicated to a single civilisation will soon be ready for its official inauguration.
All work on the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), including engineering work and the organisation and display of artefacts, will be completed by the end of February 2024, according to a recent Cabinet statement.
Artefacts have been put on display in the vast 22,000 square metre main hall. The treasures of King Tutankhamun, as well as the Grand Staircase, have already been open to the public since December 2023.
The GEM mega project is the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilisation museum, centred around the colossal statue of King Ramses II in the atrium, as well as Egypt's first eco-friendly national museum, having received the Egyptian Green Pyramid accreditation in September 2022.
