Egyptian Television Debuts First Swahili Language Programme
Hosted by Shafie Mubtadi, episode one featured the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation.
The National Media Authority launched the first Swahili-language programme on Egyptian television, with the inaugural episode attended by Tanzania’s ambassador in Cairo Richard Mutayoba Makanzo. The first episode was presented by Shafie Mubtadi.
According to the National Media Authority, the episode featured a visit to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation and explored aspects of Egypt’s history and heritage as part of the authority’s Swahili-language service for external broadcasting. The authority stated that Egypt’s Swahili service began on radio in 1954 and is now extending to television under the same service umbrella.
The Tanzanian ambassador praised the new programme and the Swahili service, and said the programmes will be broadcast on Tanzanian television. He highlighted historic ties between Egypt and Tanzania and welcomed cooperation between Egyptian Television and Tanzanian Television to strengthen media and intellectual relations between the two countries.
