EGP 500 Million Waste Treatment Project Launched in Sharqeya

Sharqeya Governorate has signed a contract with Gaia Titan, the green energy arm of Titan Cement, to establish and operate three municipal solid waste treatment facilities as part of efforts to improve waste management infrastructure across the governorate.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Acting Minister of Environment Manal Awad and Sharqeya Governor Hazem Al Ashmouny, according to an official statement. Under the deal, Gaia Titan will build and operate treatment facilities in Al Ghar in the Zagazig district, Al Khattara in the Husseiniya district, and Geeta in the Belbeis district.

The company will also operate two sanitary landfill sites for residual waste in Belbeis and Al Khattara. The project is expected to process at least 3,000 tonnes of waste per day across Sharqeya, ensuring the environmentally safe disposal of residual waste.

Total investments in the project are set to reach up to EGP 500 million. The 15-year contract aims to treat more than one million tonnes of municipal solid waste annually and produce around 200,000 tonnes of alternative fuel. Amr Reda, Chief Executive Officer of Titan Egypt, said the agreement supports the group’s strategy to advance green construction practices, expand the use of alternative fuels, and reduce reliance on conventional energy sources.

he project forms part of broader national efforts to modernise waste management systems and promote more sustainable energy and environmental practices.
