Youth Ministry & FRA Partner to Support Fintech Startups in Egypt
The agreement will use the FRA-Sandbox to help young founders test fintech ideas and develop them into scalable businesses.
Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Financial Regulatory Authority have signed a memorandum of understanding to support youth entrepreneurship in fintech and non-banking financial services, with the FRA-Sandbox serving as a regulatory testing environment for eligible startups.
The agreement covers training, financial literacy, business-model development and awareness sessions across governorates, alongside workshops, competitions and innovation challenges. Areas of focus include insurance, non-banking finance, financial leasing, factoring and capital markets.
Young founders will also be connected with incubators, accelerators, mentors and capacity-building programmes, while eligible ventures may gain access to investors, venture capital funds and financing networks. The two entities will also organise events and forums, exchange non-confidential studies and form joint working groups to monitor implementation.
During its first year, the FRA-Sandbox received more than 50 applications, with nine projects receiving preliminary approval and two entering the testing stage. Around 75 companies currently use financial technology to provide non-banking financial services in Egypt, while people aged 18 to 40 accounted for 80% of new investors registered on the Egyptian Exchange last year.
