Qatar Joins $1.15 Billion Funding Round for Space Intelligence Firm

Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) has participated in a $1.15 billion Series F financing round for Finnish space intelligence company ICEYE, as demand for sovereign intelligence and national security capabilities accelerates across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

ICEYE operates the world's largest synthetic aperture radar satellite constellation, allowing imagery to be captured regardless of weather conditions or daylight.

The round included a primary raise of $519 million led by General Atlantic, with participation from investors including Solidium, Tesi, Varma, Ilmarinen, Lifeline Ventures, Nokia and TCV. Combined with a secondary share sale, the transaction brought the total value of the round to approximately $1.15 billion.

According to the company, seven European governments have already acquired sovereign satellite systems from ICEYE.

The fresh capital will support plans to expand production capacity as demand for independent monitoring infrastructure grows. ICEYE aims to double annual satellite production from 50 to 100 by 2028, alongside a corresponding increase in launch activity.

The company specialises in synthetic aperture radar technology, which enables Earth observation under conditions that can limit conventional satellite imaging, including cloud cover and darkness.
