Hassan Allam to Launch $400 Million Data Centre Project in Egypt

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has awarded a licence to Hassan Allam Digital Infrastructure and Data Center Solutions to establish and operate data centres and provide cloud computing services, with the project's first phase valued at $400 million.

Announced during a ceremony in Cairo on June 15th, the project is intended to support rising demand for secure, locally hosted cloud services and strengthen the country's digital infrastructure.

The facility will be developed to international standards and is designed to serve government institutions, financial organisations and local and international businesses. Further expansion is planned in the coming years.

Communications and Information Technology Minister Raafat Hindi said the licensing decision forms part of efforts to develop the data centre and cloud computing industry as a pillar of the digital economy. He noted that work is under way on a national strategy for data centres and cloud computing aimed at enhancing digital sovereignty and positioning the country as a regional hub for data exchange and digital services.

According to the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, growing demand for data centre licences reflects increasing investor interest in the technology sector and ongoing digital transformation efforts. Ten licences for establishing and operating data centres have been issued over the past two years.

Hassan Allam Digital Infrastructure said the project will be developed in partnership with A15 and will support technologies including cloud computing, artificial intelligence and data-driven services.

The company added that the investment is intended to address future digital infrastructure needs and attract additional technology investments.
