Egyptian short film ‘The Last Miracle’ is set to compete in the Official Short Narrative Competition at the 46th Cairo International Film Festival, running from November 12th to 21st, 2025.
Directed by Abdelwahab Shawky and written by Mark Lotfy and Shawky, the film stars Khaled Kamal, Ahmed Siam, and Abed Anani, with Ghada Adel appearing as a guest star. Adapted from Naguib Mahfouz’s short story ‘Miracle’, the film follows Yehia, a forty-year-old journalist who receives a mysterious phone call from a dead man, sending him on a spiritual journey toward an unexpected fate.
Previously selected as the opening film of the El Gouna Film Festival in 2024, The Last Miracle was “banned by censorship authorities just 48 hours before the premiere,” according to CIFF’s statement. Now officially cleared, it returns to the screen with a much-anticipated showing at the Cairo International Film Festival.
The film is produced by Amjad Abu Alala, Mark Lotfy, Baho Bakhsh, and Adel Abdullah, with Sherif Fathy, Safi Eldin Mahmoud, Abdelwahab Shawky, and Boris Despodiev as co-producers. Production companies include Station Films, Red Star Films, Key Films, Fig Leaf Studios, Shift Studios, and Art House Blockbusters, with support from the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC).
