Nora Alissa Explores Saudi Heritage Through ‘Li’b’ at Paris Photo 2025
Presented with Hafez Gallery, this marks the first time a Saudi gallery and artist exhibits at the fair.
At Paris Photo 2025, Saudi photographer Nora Alissa and Hafez Gallery present ‘Li’b’ (Play) — a poetic meditation on movement, heritage, and collective identity. Through her lens, Alissa reimagines the gestures of Saudi folk dance, a cultural expression now recognised by UNESCO as part of the Kingdom’s intangible heritage. This marks the first time a Saudi gallery and artist hold an exhibit at the fair.
The series captures how movement functions as a language of continuity, linking personal memory with shared history. Using alternative photographic processes and a research-based practice, Alissa transforms fleeting moments into visual narratives that bridge past and present.
Founded in Jeddah in 2014 by Qaswra Hafez, Hafez Gallery continues to foster dialogue between regional and global audiences, with ‘Li’b’ standing as a testament to the evolving voice of contemporary Saudi art.
The presentation is scheduled for November 13th to the 16th, 2025 at the Grand Palais in Paris, at Booth C18.
