Naqsh Art Studio Launches Photography Walk & Open Call in Al Balad
Naqsh’s latest initiative invites photographers to reframe memory and craft in the heart of Historic Jeddah.

Naqsh Art Studio, a creative space known for fostering local artistic experimentation in Jeddah, is inviting photographers to explore the city's oldest neighbourhood through its first-ever Photography Open Call. The programme begins with a guided walking tour in Al Balad on April 29th at 5 PM, starting from Bab Alfurdhah, and invites participants to document how the area’s layered history intersects with craft, architecture, and lived memory.
The initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s 2025 ‘Year of the Handicrafts’ campaign, and encourages photographers—amateur or professional—to consider how traditional craftsmanship and storytelling can be captured through the lens. Participants are welcome to bring their own gear and join the Naqsh team in exploring Al Balad’s alleyways, historic buildings, and workshops.
Naqsh Art Studio, which has built a reputation for its open-format residencies, community-based art events, and archival projects, will support participants with artistic feedback and submission guidance during the walk. Photographers interested in submitting their work for the open call must do so by April 30th, 2025. Selected works will be considered for future exhibitions and programming centred on craft, visual heritage, and material culture.
