Amir El Masry’s ‘Giant’ Will Premier at BFI London Film Festival

The 69th BFI London Film Festival has announced the world premiere of Giant, a biographical sports drama that sees Egyptian-British actor Amir El-Masry step into the ring as legendary boxer Prince Naseem “Naz” Hamed.

Directed and written by Rowan Athale, the film charts Hamed’s meteoric rise from Sheffield’s working-class roots to global fame, anchored by his complex bond with Irish trainer Brendan Ingle, played by Pierce Brosnan.

Produced by AGC Studios, Tea Shop Productions, and White Star Productions, Giant also carries heavyweight backing with Sylvester Stallone on board as executive producer. The film blends grit and glamour, placing El-Masry in his most high-profile role to date while highlighting the unlikely friendship that shaped a sporting icon.
El-Masry has steadily built a global career with acclaimed performances in Limbo (2020), Netflix’s The Crown (2022), and HBO’s Industry (2020), a trajectory that now sees him take on his most high-profile role yet in Giant.

The festival runs from October 2nd to 13th, with Giant set to stand out among the lineup as both an underdog story and a celebration of cross-cultural legacy.
