Select 403: Mixed by Sonchauni

This week on Select, we have a special mix from Dubai-based, Filipino-born DJ Sonchauni. Known for his unpredictability and sharp textural flashes, his eclectic sound moves effortlessly between house, techno, left-field cuts, bass-heavy rhythms and ambient, often weaving them all into a single set.

For his Select set, Sonchauni traverses an emotive electronic landscape, pairing weighty bass grooves with ambient passages and moments of blissful disruption. The mix opens with Yingtuitive’s ‘Exhibition’, before slipping into an introspective left-field cut. An edit of Peder Mannerfelt’s ‘Records & Vibes’ marks a turning point, introducing a jolt of tactile techno pressure that drives the set towards its peak of bass-heavy, chant-laced rhythms and fractured house grooves.

From there, the energy begins to splinter, giving way to the deconstructed breaks of AGOSTINO’s ‘Ritorno’ (Piezo Remix). The final stretch gradually loosens its grip, ending in the hazy, melodic pull of Nick Leon’s remix of Oklou’s ‘Blade Bird’, a softer landing after a set built on tension, movement and surprise.
