Tafra Sessions: Delrady on Discovering the Art of DJing

A Cairo-based DJ and producer with a strong foundation in sound engineering, Delrady represents a new generation of young electronic talents shaping the tech house scene and the wide spectrum of groove-led electronic music in Egypt. His sets and productions are colorful, blending insatiable house grooves, and tech house rhythms with disco and funk influences, informed by a broad listening background, formal training in music production from Berklee College of Music, and certification from the Recording Academy’s Grammy Go program.

Since his emergence in the region’s electronic scene, Delrady has already released five EPs, such as ‘Big Big Dreams’ EP on Gawdat’s DancIN’ label, along with numerous singles and remixes, which have gained widespread recognition from leading DJs and producers across the globe, like Carlita. One of his tracks, ‘Keeping Working’, was played at Burning Man in 2024.

As part of ‘Tafra Sessions’ - a collaborative series by SceneNoise, Power Horse and Maz Market designed to spotlight the disruptors of Egyptian dance culture - Delrady shares how he almost discovered DJing by accident, the creative process behind his productions and how he resists being boxed into one sound, moving between his own sonic identity and other influences. He also opens up about the self-doubt that comes with producing, and how hearing a respected or well-known DJ play his music offers powerful validation that fuels him to keep going.

باعتباره DJ ومنتجاً مقيماً في القاهرة يمتلك أساساً قوياً في الهندسة الصوتية، يمثل Delrady جيلاً جديداً من المواهب الإلكترونية الشابة التي تشكل مشهد tech house والطيف الواسع للموسيقى الإلكترونية القائمة على groove في مصر. تتسم مجموعاته وإنتاجاته بالحيوية، حيث يمزج بين إيقاعات house الجذابة وأنغام tech house مع مؤثرات من disco و funk، مستنداً إلى خلفية استماع واسعة، وتدريب رسمي في الإنتاج الموسيقي من Berklee College of Music، وحصوله على شهادة من برنامج Grammy Go التابع لـ Recording Academy.

منذ ظهوره في المشهد الإلكتروني بالمنطقة، أصدر Delrady بالفعل خمس ألبومات قصيرة EPs، مثل Big Big Dreams EP على علامة DancIN الخاصة بـ Gawdat، بالإضافة إلى العديد من الأغاني المنفردة وريمكسات نالت تقديراً واسعاً من كبار المنسقين والمنتجين حول العالم مثل Carlita. كما عُزفت إحدى مقطوعاته، Keeping Working، في مهرجان Burning Man عام 2024.

كجزء من Tafra Sessions - وهي سلسلة تعاونية بين SceneNoise و Power Horse و Maz Market مصممة لتسليط الضوء على المجددين في ثقافة الرقص المصرية - يشارك Delrady كيف اكتشف عالم DJing بالصدفة تقريباً، والعملية الإبداعية وراء إنتاجاته، وكيف يقاوم حصر نفسه في صوت واحد، متنقلاً بين هويته الصوتية الخاصة والمؤثرات الأخرى. كما يتحدث بصدق عن الشك الذاتي الذي يصاحب عملية الإنتاج، وكيف أن سماع DJ مرموق أو معروف يعزف موسيقاه يمنحه إثباتاً قوياً ودافعاً يغذيه للاستمرار.
