Lil Baba & Abyusif's 'Kol Da' is a Dark Drill Portrait of Insomnia

Egyptian rapper-producer Lil Baba taps his long-time collaborator and rap godfather Abyusif for his latest single, ‘Kol Da’. The track delves into the dark, gritty shades of drill influences and hardcore sonic elements, courtesy of Lil Baba’s intricate production, to map the physical toll of success and nocturnal intrusive thoughts of an insomniac.

Against an aggressive yet moody sonic landscape of synth-driven melodies and glitchy cuts, Abyusif delivers a masterclass in lyricism, showcasing his unmistakable, complex lyrical worldplay and penchant for sharp, assertive bars. With assertive vocal delivery, the pair trade verses on life struggles, mental health, and the relentless grind of the music industry, asserting their position in the rap scene while simultaneously distancing themselves from those who don’t match their work ethic.

Lil Bab’s reverbed vocals set the introspective starting tone, before Abyusif takes rein with his signature flow, effortlessly shifting between rapid-fire rap and melodic chants, punctuated by haunting ad-libs and processed vocal samples that amplify the track’s nocturnal energy.

The music video, directed by Mohamed Ossama, mirrors the track’s intensity through cinematic black-and-white visuals. Opening on a close-up of a maze and a reflective gospel-inspired intro sampled from Sophie Hutchings, it quickly shifts into fast, fragmented shots of Abyusif and Lil Baba. Throughout the video, scenes oscillate between Lil Baba trapped in a metallic container or elevator and the duo in an empty apartment, visually embodying the song’s themes of emotional fatigue and internal conflict.

With ‘Kol Da’, the two influential rappers present a well-executed sonic and visual narrative of the weight of survival in modern Egyptian rap.

يعود الرابر والمنتج المصري ليل بابا في تعاون جديد مع أبيوسف في أحدث أغانيه: "كل ده". تغوص الأغنية في ظلال قاتمة يخيّم عليها طابع التحدّي، مستلهمةً تأثيرات موسيقى الدريل والعناصر الصوتية الحادة، مع إنتاج معقّد يقدّمه ليل بابا ليجسّد أثر النجاح على الجسد والأفكار التي تلاحق الإنسان في منتصف الليل، كمن يعاني الأرق.

وسط خلفية صوتية هجومية ومشبعة بالمزاج، تتداخل فيها الميديّات الإلكترونية واللمسات الغريبة، يقدّم أبيوسف درسًا في الكتابة الغنائية، مستعرضًا عالمه المليء بالتراكيب اللغوية المعقّدة وميله إلى البارات الواضحة ذات الحضور القوي. يتبادل الفنانان الجمل حول صعوبات الحياة، والصحة النفسية، وكفاحهما المستمر في صناعة الموسيقى، مؤكدَين مكانتهما في ساحة الراب، ومبتعدين في الوقت ذاته عن الأشخاص الذين لا يشاركونهما الاجتهاد ذاته.

أما الكليب، من إخراج محمد أسامة، فيعكس قوة الأغنية من خلال لقطات سينمائية بالأبيض والأسود. يبدأ بمشهد قريب لمتاهة ومقدمة مقتبسة من أعمال صوفي هتشينجز، قبل أن ينتقل سريعًا إلى لقطات متقطعة لأبيوسف وليل بابا. وعلى مدار العمل، تتنقّل المشاهد بين ليل بابا المحبوس داخل حاوية معدنية أو مصعد، وبين ظهور الاثنين في شقة خالية، في بناء بصري يجسّد موضوعات الأغنية عن الإرهاق النفسي والصراع الداخلي.

مع "كل ده" يقدمان "أبيوسف" و"ليل بابا" حكاية صوتية وبصرية متكاملة عن ثِقَل الاستمرار في مشهد الراب المصري المعاصر.
