Breaking away from his usual introspective rap style, Egyptian rapper and member of the Ka2en collective Kamikazem ventures into shaabi on a new collaborative single with Cairo-native producer Karamell.
The track, titled ‘3ady’, blends Egyptian rast maqam and club-ready electronics, which is imbued with nostalgic 90s melodies and shaabi influences. Born out of Kamikazem's attempt to find peace within the chaos of his life in Cairo, the song's easy-going lyricism highlights the importance of letting things be and simply going with the flow. Throughout the track, both artists, Kazem and Karamell, reflect on personal hardships and conflicts, and how they choose to handle them with humour and triviality.
The music video for ‘3ady’ is directed by Kamikazem. Inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’ and Sherif Arafa’s cult comedy ‘El Nazer’, Kazem creates a playful, absurdist world where misfortune is met with humour, not defeat.
'3ady' is a preview single of Kamikazem's upcoming collaborative EP with his brother Gello, 'Kazem Vol.1', set to release this year.
