Six Saudi Airports Advance in Global Carbon Accreditation
Arar Airport reached Level 4+ carbon accreditation, while five other Saudi airports achieved Level 2 certification.
Six airports within Saudi Arabia’s Cluster 2 airport network have advanced under Airports Council International’s Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, with Arar Airport attaining Level 4+ certification.
The Level 4+ classification is among the programme’s highest tiers and requires airports to implement advanced strategies and operational policies aimed at reducing absolute carbon emissions in line with international standards.
Five additional airports achieved Level 2 certification under the same framework: King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Airport, Najran Airport, Sharurah Airport, Wadi Al-Dawasir Airport, and Al-Wajh Airport. At Level 2, airports are required to establish emissions reduction targets and demonstrate measurable progress in reducing their carbon footprint.
Airport Carbon Accreditation is an internationally recognised programme that evaluates airport carbon management efforts across seven progressive levels, covering carbon accounting, emissions reduction, stakeholder engagement, and long-term carbon neutrality planning.
According to officials, the latest certifications align with broader sustainability targets under Saudi Civil Aviation Environmental Sustainability Program and the Saudi Green Initiative.
