Robot-Assisted Lung Cancer Detection Platform Launches in Abu Dhabi
The technology enables physicians to reach small, hard-to-access lung nodules for earlier and more precise diagnosis.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has introduced the Middle East's first robotically assisted bronchoscopy platform, a technology designed to improve the early detection and diagnosis of lung cancer.
The platform enables physicians to navigate a flexible endoscope deep into the lungs with greater stability and precision, allowing them to access and biopsy even the smallest, hardest-to-reach lung nodules without the need for open surgery.
Performed under general anaesthesia, the minimally invasive procedure typically takes between 30 and 75 minutes. According to the hospital, the technology supports faster, more accurate diagnoses while reducing the invasiveness of care.
The initiative was supported by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi as part of broader efforts to accelerate the adoption of advanced healthcare technologies and strengthen the emirate's focus on prediction, early detection and disease prevention.
According to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the robotically assisted bronchoscopy platform represents a significant advancement in diagnosing lung disease by enabling biopsies at earlier stages, when lung cancer is generally more treatable and patient outcomes are improved.
