First Natural Birth to Be Free at Public Hospitals Across Egypt
The measure aims to support maternal health, reduce unnecessary C-sections, and ease costs for families.
Natural childbirth has been made free of charge for the first delivery at hospitals under the Ministry of Health and Population across all governorates.
The decision applies to facilities within the Therapeutic Sector and is intended to support maternal and child health while reducing financial burdens on families.
Officials said the measure forms part of a broader strategy to encourage natural delivery in uncomplicated cases, citing its medical benefits for both mother and child.
The approach also aims to reduce reliance on caesarean procedures and limit associated complications. Hospitals within the Therapeutic Sector have been prepared to receive cases under the programme, with trained medical teams and equipment in place to meet quality and safety standards.
The policy will be implemented nationwide without exception, with the stated objective of ensuring equitable access to healthcare services.
