Egypt's Domestic Liquidity Stands at EGP 15.3 Trillion in June 2026
Central Bank data shows local currency deposits rose, while foreign currency deposits declined during the month.
Domestic liquidity in Egypt's banking sector stood at EGP 15.261 trillion in June 2026, down slightly from EGP 15.330 trillion in May, according to the Central Bank of Egypt.
The bank also reported a modest decline in the money supply, which fell to EGP 4.492 trillion from EGP 4.502 trillion a month earlier. Meanwhile, currency in circulation outside the banking system decreased from EGP 1.737 trillion to EGP 1.649 trillion.
Despite the overall decline in liquidity, non-government local currency deposits increased to EGP 10.347 trillion in June from EGP 10.168 trillion in May. Local currency demand deposits rose to EGP 2.842 trillion, while time deposits and savings certificates climbed to EGP 7.505 trillion. Households remained the largest holders of these deposits, accounting for EGP 1.252 trillion in demand deposits and EGP 7.004 trillion in time deposits and savings certificates.
By contrast, non-government foreign currency deposits fell to the equivalent of EGP 3.264 trillion, down from EGP 3.425 trillion in May. Both foreign currency demand deposits and time deposits declined over the month, although the household sector continued to account for the largest share of foreign currency time deposits and savings certificates, holding the equivalent of EGP 1.714 trillion.
