Egypt Signs Cooperation Agreements With Three African Countries

Egypt signed a series of cooperation agreements with South Africa, Equatorial Guinea and Chad during meetings held on the sidelines of the Alamein Africa Forum in New Alamein, covering areas including investment, agriculture, tourism, aquaculture and pharmaceuticals.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola signed an agreement establishing a high joint committee to oversee political, economic, trade, investment and development cooperation. The two sides also agreed to hold the first session of their joint business council during Abdelatty’s forthcoming visit to South Africa, while discussions covered Sudan, the Horn of Africa, Palestine, Libya, the Sahel and continued coordination within BRICS.

Separately, Abdelatty and Equatorial Guinean Foreign Minister Simeon Oyono Esono Angue concluded the first session of their joint committee with memoranda of understanding covering agriculture, culture, tourism and aquaculture. Egypt also signed a memorandum of understanding with Chad on pharmaceuticals, biological products and medical supplies, following talks between Abdelatty and Chadian Foreign Minister Ahmed Kogori. Wider cooperation between Egypt and Chad includes a planned highway linking the two countries through Libya.

The Alamein Africa Forum, held from October 2nd to 4th, brings together African officials, businesses and financial institutions to discuss investment and continental economic cooperation, with a focus on sectors including infrastructure, energy, transport, agriculture and pharmaceuticals.
