Dubai Metro Airport Express Line Could Link DXB & Al Maktoum Airport

Plans have emerged for a 55-kilometre Dubai Metro Airport Express Line that would connect Dubai International Airport with Al Maktoum International Airport through five stations.

The proposed route would connect with existing Red Line stations at Dubai International Airport before passing through Al Jaddaf and continuing along Al Khail Road to a new station at Jumeirah Village Circle. From there, the line would extend towards Al Maktoum International Airport.

Passenger facilities outlined for the project include remote airline check-in, baggage drop-off and security screening, potentially allowing travellers to complete parts of the airport process before reaching their terminal.

The scheme also includes two secondary lines. One would connect the proposed Jumeirah Village Circle station with Al Fardan Exchange, while another would extend towards a new station at Business Bay.

Reports indicate that six bidders have come forward for the study and design of the Airport Express Line, including AtkinsRéalis, which previously worked on Dubai Metro’s existing Red and Green lines.

The Roads and Transport Authority has not yet confirmed the Airport Express Line, meaning its route, stations and delivery timeline remain subject to change.

The proposed project appears to be separate from the planned Dubai Metro Gold Line, which is targeted for completion by 2032. The wider metro network is expected to expand to 64 stations covering 84 square kilometres by 2030, before reaching 140 stations across more than 228 square kilometres by 2040.

Confirmed expansion plans currently include the Dubai Metro Blue Line, which will feature 14 stations across two routes spanning 30 kilometres and is scheduled for completion by 2029.
