Doctors Perform First Cross-City Robotic Surgery From Riyadh to Jeddah
Doctors in Riyadh remotely operated on a patient in Jeddah using robotic surgery technology.
The Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs has carried out Saudi Arabia's first cross-city remote robotic surgery, with doctors in Riyadh performing an operation on a patient at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Jeddah.
The procedure saw surgeons operate a robotic surgical system from a remote console at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, while the patient remained in an operating room in Jeddah, where a local medical team was present to assist throughout the intervention.
According to the ministry, the operation was conducted using the KANGDUO - SageBot robotic surgery platform, supported by advanced communications technology that enabled the surgical team in Riyadh to control the procedure in real time.
The operation was carried out through collaboration between kidney and urology surgery teams at the two medical cities, with specialists working together across the two locations during the procedure.
