Repeated sightings of the desert hedgehog (Paraechinus aethiopicus) have been recorded across the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve, highlighting improving habitat conditions and growing biodiversity within the protected area.

The desert hedgehog is one of the smallest hedgehog species, measuring between 14 and 28 centimetres in length and weighing 250 to 500 grams. It is distinguished by its relatively large ears and the protective spines covering its back, which help defend it from predators.
The repeated appearances of the species also point to healthier vegetation cover and improved habitat quality across the reserve.
