Alexandria University Lecturer Joins UK-Ireland Eye Surgery Board
Alexandria University doctor Ahmed Shalabi Al Bordan becomes the first Egyptian on the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Dr Ahmed Shalabi Al Bordan, a lecturer in ophthalmology and eye surgery at Alexandria University's Faculty of Medicine, has been elected to the board of the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, becoming the first Egyptian to hold a seat on the organisation's governing body.
The society specialises in cataract and refractive surgery across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Its seven-member board is composed of senior ophthalmic surgeons and specialists from the United Kingdom and other countries.
According to Alexandria University, the appointment marks a milestone for the university's Faculty of Medicine and its ophthalmology school, whose academic staff have gained recognition within international medical communities.
The university said the election reflects the growing international standing of its faculty and its continued focus on advancing scientific research and supporting academic excellence.
