15,000 Attaba Vendors Set for Move Under Cairo Overhaul

The Cairo Governorate is pressing ahead with a large-scale project to reorganise street vending in Attaba and Moski, relocating traders to purpose-built markets while upgrading infrastructure across one of the capital's busiest commercial districts.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to revitalise Khedivial Cairo, with plans covering around 15,000 street vendors while preserving livelihoods and improving the area's historic urban landscape.

According to Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber, the first phase has already integrated more than 500 vendors into designated markets. A second phase is under way to accommodate around 900 additional vendors alongside ongoing construction and service upgrades. During the works, street vendors have been temporarily relocated to Attaba Garden to minimise disruption to their businesses.

Infrastructure improvements include the redevelopment of five key streets spanning a combined 1,052 metres, creating clear access routes for emergency vehicles including fire engines and ambulances.

The governorate has also completed the area's drinking water network and finished 95% of sewage network upgrades, while work continues to replace electricity and telecommunications infrastructure. Elsewhere, 152 commercial premises have been refurbished as part of the project.

To enhance the district's appearance, five architecturally distinctive buildings are receiving coordinated wooden shopfront signage under a unified visual identity, while the facades of nine modern buildings are being upgraded with new cladding.

Additional safety measures include the installation of fire-resistant canopies, surveillance cameras, civil protection systems, interlock paving and new lighting.
