If your friends and your grandma’s sofra collided, it would taste like Teta Loula’s Iftar at SamakLaban.

Teta Loula x SamakLaban Team Up for Pop-Up Iftar & Trivia Night

A pop-up iftar inspired by ‘Teta Loula’s Cookbook’ is taking place at SamakLaban in Downtown Cairo on March 12th, bringing a menu of Egyptian family recipes passed down for nearly 140 years to the table for one evening.

The event is a collaboration between Teta Loula and the SamakLaban creative studio, hosted at the space on 165 Mohammed Farid Street. Known as part café, part furniture showroom and part event venue, SamakLaban will serve as the setting for a communal iftar centred on dishes from the cookbook.

‘Teta Loula’s Cookbook’ is a collection of family recipes compiled by Egyptian grandmother ‘Loula’, preserving generations of home cooking. For the pop-up, several of those dishes will be served, including classics like rokak and mahshy wara’ enab.

After iftar, the evening will continue with a round of trivia, followed by tea and a simple homemade dessert.
And while the food is the heart of the night, SamakLaban’s eccentric space ensures the whole experience feels like stepping into your grandma’s living room — if your grandma happened to be a collector of fish sculptures and milk-inspired art.
