Variable Speed Limits to Launch on Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street
Effective October 27th, 2025, limits will vary by conditions with changes shown on signage including reductions from 100 km per hour to 80 km per hour when required.
Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street in Abu Dhabi will introduce a variable speed limit system on October 27th, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance traffic flow and road safety across the capital.
The system, implemented by Abu Dhabi Mobility, will display real-time speed updates through electronic signboards, automatically adjusting limits according to live conditions such as congestion, adverse weather, or road maintenance activity. The initiative aims to reduce traffic accidents and improve journey efficiency by encouraging smoother driving patterns rather than abrupt speed changes.
Motorists are urged to follow the posted limits as displayed on the electronic signs. The move aligns with Abu Dhabi’s wider strategy to integrate smart mobility systems and support the emirate’s vision of safe, efficient, and adaptive transport infrastructure.
