Tourism & Hospitality Courses Added to Secondary School Curriculum

The National Curriculum Center has introduced tourism and hospitality as core subjects for students in the final year of secondary school in Saudi Arabia. Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Tourism, the initiative is part of broader plans to expand the Kingdom’s tourism sector.

Using a self-learning framework, the curriculum aims to equip students with foundational knowledge and practical skills in tourism and hospitality through accessible, interactive materials. The modules cover topics like the role of Vision 2030 in tourism growth, Saudi Arabia’s cultural and natural assets, career pathways in the sector, tourism marketing, sustainability practices, and innovation and entrepreneurship.

In addition to developing subject knowledge, the programme seeks to raise awareness of Saudi Arabia’s heritage and natural resources, provide students with event organisation skills, and encourage applied projects that integrate sustainable tourism principles. By embedding these disciplines into the final year of secondary education, the Kingdom aims to prepare students for careers in one of its fastest-growing industries.
